Don Kingfisher Campbell

Seven Annums

The tree at the end of the driveway

is leaning now like this is Italy, only

it’s Alhambra, California and Edgewood Dr is

so full of repairs it should be called Patch Street

The rain has turned all the trunk bark

dark brown complementing the wet leaves

One Cube parked curbside sits silently

waiting for us to steer some inspiration

Where to go? Costco? 7-11? CVS? GW?

Maybe a nearby park to traipse small hills

And return to front door stands to realize

it’s time to buy flowers for the new month

Got bars on the windows but never had an

intruder, solicitors knock on the iron screen

Because we’ve been renting here we don’t feel

deeply attached to the walls, we simply decorate

So it’s all moveable, if we decide the rent has

become too high while waiting for inheritance

We ringed each other almost four years ago

and know when we go we want to leave together

You make me wish

You would listen

To my every word

Through headphones

You would hear

My tune humming

Making our breakfast

I know you love music

Possibly more than me

But I am not sure of that

Until you sing to me

The love lyrics song as

If it were written for me

Then I tell you I will

Buy you a keyboard so

You can try composing

Only you say your poems

Already are a melody

Of your whirling heart

And this piece of poesy is

Just part of your albums to

Worship my body and mind

Through my Glasses I can see

Why I joyously take out my Wallet

To buy you a Flamingo Globe to remember

I never want us to be anywhere near Remote

I’d rather be the one who asks if you need Napkins

When I’m in CVS using my Cellphone for coupons

Back home I sit on dining room Chair with you across

The Table where you lay down food made with love

And happily toss into the Trash Basket my leavings

I tip my heart Hat to you for making my life two
