FINDING TRUE ROMANCE WITH THE FEATURED READER

AT THE SUNDAY AFTERNOON FRYE MUSEUM POETRY SERIES

Look at her finger
for sign of wedding band
O Muse  O Refuge
The program says you are a
Corporate Interior Designer at Microsoft
You are so slim,
so blond,
so clean
And where the hell did you
Get that tan?
I feel we are kindred spirits
Can you feel my love from the back
of the auditorium?
Let us live together forever--
I don't have any furniture,
so you don't have to worry about anything
clashing with your present decor.
Anyhow, I already know that
I'll just adore
your place.
And if it indeed turns out
you already have a husband
Get rid of him.
Is he a poet? I doubt it.
No, he will never understand you
As I do,
For I am twice the man he is,
Being both poet AND lover,
With all my energies given to nothing
But poems and love,
Seeing as I don't waste calories
On anything as pedestrian as
A job.
O Yuppie Priestess
Entwine me in your arms and let
the multifarious facets of our passion
Engulf us in their riches
Like the gold highlights
Of your sundrenched hair
Or the stock options splitting
Like motes in the depths
Of your sea-green eyes.
