The Sapling

…set loose for a short season to destroy,

when I was a boy,

I treated the world like a toy,

but then I was woken up

and a light shined in my darkness,

and revealed a seed that had been planted

in the dark forest of my heart,

ages ago, that had become a sapling.

My brother gave me a shove

and I stumbled out my door

into Love.

Frozen in Love

I was in my car and heard Donovan

singing that “The Hurdy Gurdy Man

came singing songs of love.”

I thought of Snow White and the birds

singing, and the animals celebrating love and

the love the Princesses have for the Princes,

but I saw how Disney had grown

and by the time of Frozen, an act of true love

was not a true love kiss,

but was sacrificing your life for someone else’s

and the star was frozen in love.

Dream of Love

Never underestimate the power

of a liar who is believed.

But, before this liar ever was,

a dream of love was conceived.

We needed to be faced with a mirror

that this liar represented,

all of our hatred, in its many forms,

has to be faced

and let go of,

so a Lion can come down

from above.
