Ron Bremner

Lovers, friends, and spouses

It’s funny how you can

write such great stuff

about your lovers past

and present, how intimate

and thrilling and beguiling

your verses can be.

 Friends, dead or alive,

 can inspire such warm and

glowing and incisive

words

as they move in and out

of our lives

But your spouse?

You can write of a vicious

spouse, or a brutal spouse, or

a betraying spouse, or an

unfeeling,  bored, or boring

spouse,

Any of those can be a

compelling write...

but  how to write of a loved and

loving spouse, whose daily inter-

actions are plain and simple and

uncomplicated …

and satisfying?

In other words, a happy marriage?

This is not the stuff of which

great poetry is made!

So I'll just say this:

to my darling, I wouldn't choose any

other life, you renew and validate

me every day, as I hope that I

renew and validate you.

that may not make for good poetry

but it makes for something much

better, a good life.
